Drag Engraved Motifs'
We were keen to continue exploring the CNC Machine’s capabilities and came across a few videos on Youtube showing that it could also be used to etch/drag engrave! Immediately, we knew we wanted to explore this further and so after a quick it of research and a trip to Bunnings (our hardware store of choice) all we had to do was wait for the drag engraving bit to arrive…
The first designs we decided our simple SVG Illustrations of the North Star, a Christmas Tree and the Tree of Life. As you can see from the images below we think there is real potential here to explore a range of products that compliment our existing.
All pieces were designed using Fusion 360 and carved on the Shapeoko Pro XXL:
Material: 97 x 97mm Pacific Gloss Spectrum Wall Tile (from Bunnings) - these come in a range of colours
Cutter: 90 degree MC Etcher Diamond Drag Bit
Post Processing: nil
This piece was created on our own in-house CNC Machine which we use for rapid prototyping and concept exploration. It is an exceptionally capable machine and we could batch these out to make a product range if interest is sufficient but for now we are still exploring the machine’s (and our own) capabilities in this space.

Whilst our first foray into this area used a ceramic tile there are multiple options for materials we can engrave and for the daring there are examples of engraving existing electronic products (i.e. a Macbook) but a quick overview of suitable materials is as follows:
Plastics like acrylic, plexiglass, and polycarbonate
Metals like aluminum, brass, or stainless steel
Glass, porcelain, and ceramics
Stone tile, like granite and marble
